2015 Victorian Archaeology Colloquium

Green Heritage were delighted this year to both sponsor and have two talks at the Colloquium. Barry Green and Brian Shanahan talked about the results of the recent excavation at the former Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind site on St Kilda Road. Barry spoke about the overall results of the excavation, which was completed late last year. A number of archaeological remains were identified, ranging from ephemeral 1850s settlement on St Kilda Road, an 1880s cottage hospital, garden and playground features plus a WWII air raid trench. Brian spoke specifically about the WWII air raid trench and how it fits in to the wider landscape of Melbourne during WWII. Check out the Projects page for photos of the site and some of the artefacts.
